Behavior Modification/Rehabilitation

You're Not a Bad Dog Parent

When your dog's behavior is stressful, embarrassing, or scary, it can feel like you're walking on eggshells in your own home. You're not alone—and you're not failing.

At Dalmatia BnB, behavior modification is a structured, step-by-step training plan designed to change the behavior you're seeing and address the reason it's happening—whether that's fear, anxiety, overstimulation, lack of boundaries, learned habits, or unmet needs.

Whether your dog is barking nonstop, destroying your house, panicking when left alone, reacting on leash, or showing aggression—there is a path forward. And it starts with understanding.

What Is Behavior Modification?

Behavior modification is more than teaching "sit" or "down." It's the process of replacing unwanted behaviors with new skills and calmer coping strategies—so your dog can succeed in real life.

Most behavior problems aren't "stubbornness." They're communication. My job is to interpret what your dog is telling us, then build a plan that is fair, clear, and effective.

Behavior modification focuses on:

  • Understanding triggers (what sets the behavior off)

  • Teaching replacement behaviors (what to do instead)

  • Building impulse control and emotional regulation

  • Creating structure at home (so training actually sticks)

  • Coaching you step-by-step so you feel confident, not overwhelmed

Common Behavior Issues We Work On

  • Excessive barking

  • Chewing / destructive behavior

  • Digging

  • Jumping on people

  • Nipping / play biting

  • Chasing animals or people

  • Begging

How Our Process Works

Step 1: Evaluation & Goal Setting

We start by defining what's happening, when it happens, and what you want life to look like instead. You'll leave with clarity and a plan—not just "try this" advice.

Step 2: Foundation Skills (The "Calm Dog" Basics)

Many behavior problems improve dramatically when we build:

  • Engagement and focus

  • Leash manners

  • Place / settle

  • Recall foundations

  • Impulse control

  • Clear boundaries and structure at home

Step 3: Behavior Plan + Real-Life Practice

We work the behavior in the environments that matter most—home, yard, neighborhood, public spaces when appropriate. You'll learn exactly what to do in the moment, before the behavior escalates.

Step 4: Maintenance & Support

Behavior change is a process, not a one-time fix. I'll help you create a routine you can actually keep up with, so progress continues long after lessons end.
